Experience the world-famous Sea Organs a bit differently
Are you ready for an unforgettable adventure? Perhaps you haven’t considered it yet, but trust us, Sea Organs will be the highlight of your trip.
While numerous visitors have been fortunate enough to experience the captivating melodies of the Sea Organs, not all have had the opportunity to behold them from the perspective of the sea.
Imagine yourself abroad a luxurious boat, cruising along the northwest wall of the peninsular old city, where the Sea Organ serenades you with its enchanting melody. Positioned below the grand marble steps, this architectural miracle transforms the waves of the Adriatic Sea into mesmerizing harmonies. As you sip on a complimentary glass of prosecco, each taste seems to harmonize with the rhythm of the sparkling sea.
As you set sail on this adventure, you’ll witness the Sea Organ’s captivating performance, orchestrated by the wind and waves. Designed by the visionary architect Nikola Bašić, this masterpiece comprises 35 underwater pipes spanning 70 meters. Each wave creates a unique symphony, ensuring that no two experiences are alike. Close your eyes and soak in the haunting yet beautiful sounds of the sea.
When the waves are calm with a gentle lull, the sounds from the Zadar Sea Organ are more peaceful and harmonious, like a repetitive melody. Its tone resembles a hollowed sound, much like blowing the top of a glass bottle. As you can imagine, when the tides shift and the waves become more powerful, a lively and lond sound emanates from the strength – one can easily become hypnotized by its changing tune!
Picture yourself waking up early to catch the Adriatic’s morning song, a calm melody that whispers of smooth waves and serene skies. Nikola Bašić’s creation, the Sea Organ, stands as Zadar’s most iconic attraction, holding the attention of visitors with its ethereal music since the project was completed in 2005.
Greetings to the sun
But the magic doesn’t end there. Next to it sits the famous Greeting to the Sun, a mesmerizing monument illuminated by solar-powered lights. As evening falls, the sky transforms into a colorful canvas, enhanced by the rhythmic dance of light emitted by the Greeting to the Sun, also known as the Sun Salutation. Also designed by Nikola Bašić, this solar-powered installation has a diameter of 22 meters.
Its 300 solar panels harness sunlight to power its renowned light show at sunset. The collected energy also illuminates the waterfront during the evenings. To honor Zadar, the names of historical Zadar saints are engraved into the chrome ring at the installation’s edge.
It’s evident that both the Sea Organ and the Greeting to the Sun share a common goal – they rely on nature to come to life. In a nod to the future of sustainability, both attractions function on renewable energy, creating a true masterpiece with the potential to influence more installations like these.
